I have been in Anchorage a year. I have lived in many big cities before: San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis and others. This is the worst place for dating ever. Perhaps it is the nature of the kind of employment available here, but the professional community is very small, and many of the professionals I have met are here sporadically for business and don't live here.

There are far more blue collar guys around. This would be fine if they were still smart, funny and saw dating as an opportunity to meet a great gal. This hasn't been my experience. They seem to fit bad stereotypes too well.

Be prepared for solitude.

Maybe you bring out the best in them? Why don't you see the same "opportunity" in dating or is it a one sided thing? Your comment, based on your observation, seems to fit a terrible stereotype all too well for me. I like fun girls who know how to enjoy life and have a mutual exchange instead of looking for a free lunch ... the stereotype thing.

Its pretty evident with the proliferation of lifted pick ups or even just pick ups in general up here and the way they drive. I like to people watch when I am in traffic and the guys I see in these trucks dont look like they will be spliting the atom lol.

However, this is likely to be changing in the near future.

In that case its a good thing I'm here and ready to take the opportunity.

I was up there for a couple of weeks. I noticed there was a scene happening at one of the higher-end gyms in town. That's where the 20-something and 30-something singles hang out, or one place, anyway, and the gym is a military-free zone. The university has 20-somethings there, too, and some single staff and professors in the 30+ ranges. There are cool singles in the city, you just need to know where to find 'em.

Now that you mention it, I have never met any rocket scientists who drove lifted trucks. But this is how most women think about the subject:

How do you even get in there? What a pain in the ass... not to mention ruined a perfectly good truck.

How do they get away with being military free, seems like that is a law suit waiting to happen, they must be really discreate about it.

I think its a great idea because a large volume of the lower (E1-E4) and alot of mid ranks (E5-E6 and O1-O3) are the most obnoxious people I have ever met. The E7 and up and O4 and up are nice to be around.

Or the HID head lights or obnoxouis exhausts that make tons of noise. I have no issues with a regular pick up, heck I drive one and I am an engineer. I have heard HIDs are going to be illegal soon other than for factory installs so that is super nice.
