I also doubt that outside of your visit to your mail order bride you've been out of the country but once. i can't even be angry at you for your ignorance: i grew up as white trash, with white trash, and i know that mindset takes a conscience effort to change. in your case, alas, it will never happen, so i can honestly only feel bad for you. you are missing out on so much, and apparently being mean- instead of merely firm, or guiding- is how you display the anger that typically accompanies willful ignorance.

btw, no pride in my city (or country for that matter, you probably assume) ? MY city was attacked - i was out there in the debris in the days following. you think yourself a pround american, I'm sure. but i don't recall you standing next to me sifting thru metallic debris to pull out the dead bodies of my fellow new yorkers and american citizens.

and thus i wipe my hands of you, because my response will only fall on your deaf ears. i hope few alaskans are like you.
I suppose some people find overcrowding, pollution, lack of freedom, a culture of dependence, over-development, etc., something to be proud of, but I'm quite the opposite. I consider places like NYC (and Chicago and LA and so on) a blight on our landscape. Send it and the people therein to Europe (the U.K. with its police state would fit them well) where they belong to avoid destroying this country and its freedoms.

And as for the rest of this thread: I agree that certain posters can be downright nasty/have a bad attitude, but, in this case, I think they're correct. To qualify for resident hunting licenses, the PFD, etc., I'll have to live there on my land and actually qualify as a resident, legally. There's no legal way around the law about residency, so coming up with creative "solutions" strikes me as quite dishonest and fraudulent. I've heard of people just buying property in AK and falsely claiming they are a resident when they may only spend vacations if that in the state. That's fraud, and illegal too. Truse me, if simply owning property qualified one as a resident, I'd be claiming residency already, and I suspect many others would, but that's not the case. Don't look for ways to falsely claim residency.

While i of course disagree w/ your 1st sentiment (you may not have visited NYC in a while- and i won't even get into Anc crime rate) i agree almost in full with your 2nd sentiment- and mostly because of the way you phrased it, namely logically, firmly and simply, which is all it takes to make a point.

I'm staying well away from Anchorage too. I don't like cities. I will never step foot in NYC again.

its seriously to funny how you guys can argue in a forum - asking a question, getting rude answers, accusing military personnel in doing somehting illegal in asking a question about residency. It wasnt even my question, it came straight from an alaskan resident who should know better anyways...lol

to funny, this forum has to many morons who seriously have to learn how to behave - I guess u guys forgot how to be nice while living in the "outback here..." lol

And its not ur state alone, it belongs to the united states. And we all are citizens and have the same right to live wherever we want to, so whoever wrote this comment about "stayin away from my alaska" should stop being so selfish and rude! I think Alaska is big enough to share with and its not stopping me from moving there... - there are retards all over the world, so a few of them in a forum doesnt mean everybody in the state is rude!!! Just chill and relax and find urself a wife - maube ur more happier then...

It wasn't the question about residency but rather the fact that you were here looking for someone to supply you with a fake address so that you could scam the state that was the root cause of the answers that you received.

Of course we can't stop you from moving to AK, but I doubt you'll receive any assistance here in the form of a fake address et al.

If the OP is military and going to be stationed in AK, then he/she can attend college at the resident tuition rates by providing a copy of his military orders to the admissions office. In-state tuition is offered to military members who are stationed in the state. But, the OP would have to do that upon arrival and not beforehand.

Except you didn't ask what it takes to be an Alaskan resident. You asked if anyone would assist you in committing a criminal act:

Then you have the audacity to get indignant when law-abiding Alaskans tell you to get bent. Trash like you we don't need in Alaska.

I think you're wrong here. Most posters here are more than willing to help people who want to move or visit here. What happened here is that residency is a touchy subject mainly because of the Permanent Fund Dividend that Alaskan residents receive. Any residency shortcuts could be used to get a dividend earlier than you would be entitled to get. Even if that is not your intention, the possibility exists.

You guys need to chill out, the dude is just trying to save some money on his education by doing what's best for his family.
Do you people understand how difficult it is to go from Military to Civilian life?
I don't give a rats ass if you guys think he's 'scamming the great state', just being a in the Military he's giving more to this country (Including Alaska, it's still part of the US) than most people will in their whole worthless lives. He should be able to decide where he wants to reside when he gets out because as of now, he doesn't have the right to live where he would like.
He's earned his residency in this country and that gives him the right to reside wherever he seems fit.

Go to your S1 and change your state of residence to Alaska, you'll pay Alaska state taxes and since your no where near your ETS it won't be a problem. As an added bonus when you do ETS you'll get travel pay from Norfolk to AK. It's legal.
