I searched all over online and the forum, no luck. Can someone tell me what time frame to start to expect the cold/winter and snow to start? I am moving up next week and I am really looking forward to the winter

Ok sorry, lol, I am moving to Eagle River. I am all for summer but I just spent the last year in Fl and I love the winter and there just isn't any winter in southern Fl. And for the record...you guys have the patience of saints! I know how many dumb questions I have asked and you guys put up with millions of questions like mine

On average the first snows in Anchorage are in October. I know, there are years when this doesn't happen, but mid-October would be typical. When I moved to Anchorage, we had a foot on October 12, and being from the lower 48 I assumed it would just melt and come back at some later date. I was wrong. There was snow on the ground from that date until April!

I know you guys are enjoying the weather now, I will too. I am really looking to forward to seeing the sights when the ground is bare first. I grew up in PA and lived in MN so I know winter, BUT I will never say I know what to expect there. I do know the roads will be different. Funny, when I lived in FL everyone I knew always went to AK, I think I was the only who hadn't been yet. Right now I am in OK and I noticed the last few days it was warmer in Anchorage than it has been here!
