My boyfriend is going to be clerking in Anchorage this summer and for the next year. Someone recommended we stay North of 15th Ave and West of C, which is a pretty limited area.

I see lots of posts on where people shouldn't or don't want to live...

Where are *good* places to live? By "good" I mean: close to downtown, close to shopping and other social aspects--we're from a town of 5 million people--so somewhere that doesn't feel like we're in the middle of nowhere (we're looking forward to a smaller town, but don't want to get "cabin fever"), but somewhere I can feel safe walking by myself when I'm visiting--preferably a community of people.

We're looking for a balance of affordability and neighborhood.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Anchorage proper is a compact town. The boundaries that you were given are pretty good. Lots of decent, safe affordable housing located in that area.

Default Finding it?

Any ideas for how to find housing in that area? We've contacted property managers, but there seems to be extremely limited listings either online or with managers. Trying to search from out of state has been rough! Thanks for the feedback though!

Have you tried Craigslist?

Stiffnecked, what would that neighborhood be called, I forgot. South of 15th, west of C would be Turnagain.....

Default Yup to Craigslist--with not much luck

We've checked Craigslist... there are a couple of options, but really not very many postings in that area.

My question is if there are other areas of Anchorage that fit the bill

Thanks for your help!

Try Turnagain or Midtown. When you find some promising ads, ask about that specific street and I will try to help. You can also use Google Earth to get street views.

I would pretty much call that whole area in general "south anchorage". Need more specifics areas to give them a neighborhood name. How far south?? Cause midtown, sand lake, jewel lake, turnagin all fall kind of in those boundaries. Kinda, sorta.
