I'm planning to take a road trip to Ann Arbor around this time, but am a little scared about the snow. I'm from the south so not used to having to drive in it... is it still bad around this time?

Is it dangerous to drive or just a bit inconvenient?

Snow in late March/early April can happen, but it usually melts quickly due to the sun being stronger at that time of year. Usually if it does snow at that time of year, it doesn't affect driving nearly as much as during colder months. It might snow a few inches, with the snow melting as it hits the roads (meaning roads are just wet).

Of course, once in a great while, we can get a REAL snow storm at that time of year, in which case driving can be dangerous. So make sure you pay attention to the forecast. But chances are very good that you won't have a problem.

I remember back in 2002 we had no measurable snow all winter and then got ten inches in one snowfall at the very end of March. I can also remember years where temps in late March were in the 50s and 60s and it was light jacket weather.

IOW, it could go either way. That much snow that late in March and especially in early April is not common, and chances are that there either won't be snow on the ground then or if there is it will just be the unmelted remnants of an earlier snowfall. Regardless, the road crews in Michigan are pretty proactive, especially in densely populated areas like Ann Arbor, so even if we do get snow around that time, between the stronger sun, longer days, warmer air temperatures, and diligent road crews, it shouldn't be a problem.

Me, I'm voting for 65 and sunny!
