Bathroom is 25sq ft plus tub - it's from the 70s and we are looking at a full remodel. We want to bump out a side wall about 14 inches to take it to the window in the adjacent room. We gain about 7 sq ft in the bathroom. The door to the bathroom is too narrow - it's only 24" now and we want it 30".
Our plan is to put in a triangle shaped shower, upgrade the toilet, and move the sink to the same wall as the shower. Right now the room we'd take the footage from is used for storage and a safe area for the cats as well as keep the dogs out of the cat food.
Concern: we don't think it's a load-bearing wall - how do we determine so we can intelligently discuss this with a contractor?
