This is NOT to pick on obese people. Just to pick up on a thread where the poster stated that a person's chance of getting cirrhosis through diet are "incredibly minute to the point of it not happening."
Article number 1, above, says that "26 percent of Arizona adults are obese, up one percentage point from the previous year."
Also, says Arizona is the 29th most obese state in the country.
Article below--According to the American College of Gastroenterology, "obesity is thought to be the most common cause of fatty infiltration of the liver." It goes on to say, "2-5% of adult Americans, but up to 20% of those who are obese may suffer from the more serious condition, NASH."
"In the past 10 years...obesity has doubled in adults, and tripled in children...which may explain why NASH and NAFLD are becoming more common."
Obesity can cause fatty liver disease, and in 20 % of that group, it can progress to NASH--a serious condition, where fat accumalation is associated w/ liver cell inflammation, and then severe liver scarring and/or cirrhosis. In some pts, cirrhosis can require a liver tranplant.
