Can you please help me understand something. I was recently in an Arizona town and in two different restaurants noticed a sign that read "This establishment does not serve alcohol to anyone on horseback" or something to that effect. When I asked the waitress about it, she said that it is DUI even if on horseback. I realize that if you are over the legal limit its DUI, but to refuse to sell even one beer to a guy who rode in on a horse seems to be a little unfair. What about someone on a motorcycle? They can have a couple and speed away down the road. Am I looking at it wrong?

I haven't seen that anyway - then again, I have no desire to ever be on a horse again (although the last time the one redeeming aspect was tying the horse up to a post to have a pub lunch in Wales which of course included beer)

Maybe a liability issue where their insurance policy wouldn't respond in the same way to a horse as it would to a vehicle or non-motorized vehicle

That's goofy, John . . .

Unless you rode your horse into the bar, how would anyone know you were on horseback?

I can understand no alcohol for those who ride their horses inside the bar. Have you ever seen a horse take a whiz and/or a poop, especially after a beer or six . . . KINDA MESSY?

! ! ! ! ! !

i dunno if theyd stick to it...

but i belive it has something to do with liability should you cause an accident while riding drunk...

while it doesnt make drink driving right you have insurance on your car and motorcycle that helps cover expenses should you cause or be in an accident...
im guessing folks dont take out additional personal liability insurance on thier horse for such potential occasiona.

and a horse in the wrong hands can do just as much if not more damage than a car in the wrong hands...horses have minds of their own and are a flight animal...something spooks them they have a tendency to go alittle wild.

Well the town I was in was Tombstone, and the waitress that I asked seemed to be serious. I think the restaurant was the Long Horn or something like that. When I asked her more about it she said that a car can have more than one driver but a horse is a one person ride. I dont know, if your under the legal limit, whose to say you cant hop on your horse and ride off into the sunset?

Just my opinion. That's plain silly. You may be so stonkered you don't know your way home. The horse isn't. He KNOWS the way home.

I know. You can get your horse in a lot of trouble if your drunk. I agree with charging drunk people with a dui for riding drunk. But if you sell alcohol to people getting on bikes...

We've done that sunset dinner ride from South Mountain stables to that steak house, and I think almost everyone had a couple beers with dinner before riding back.
