Hi Everyone!!

My husband is moving to SV next week. The children and I will be following a couple of months later. I have been an Interpreter for almost 15 years. I would love to be able to continue working in my field. Anything to do with signing/deafness.....any ideas???

I would first recommend that you check into licensing laws. I believe it was back in 2000 that Arizona passed a ruling that general and legal interpreters be licensed. However, you must also be certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Those who do not need to be licensed are those who interpret for the K-12 sector, religious purposes, or work as volunteers.

I am experienced in both ASL and BSL. My mom used to care for deaf children during my growing up years in California. Also, my husband is British and he has a sister who is profoundly deaf (now a professor for the deaf at a UK university) and a brother who is completely deaf. Learning BSL became a necessity so that I could communicate with my siblings-in-law

Best of luck to you in continuing with your career. I'm sure AZ could use more ASL interpreters

I am so sorry. I didn"t know that anyone responded to me. I haven't had a chance to check the links. I am currently living in boxes....getting ready for the big move the day after Thanksgiving. As soon as I set up shop there I will check them out! Thank you so much!!
