Interracial couples around Eastern Arizona (Safford, Buckeye: live, moving to, friendly)

My wife and I are thinking of moving to the Safford area. I am a white man, and she is a black woman. Where we live (southwest Connecticut), this is not a big deal at all. In fact, it's getting more commonplace all the time. Our concern is the tolerance level in town, and on the job. Are there many interracial couples in the area? If so, how are they/you accepted? Any feedback at all will be greatly appreciated, even if you are not in an interracial relationship.

Well there aren't going to be a lot of interracial couples to begin with I mean Safford is a small city of about 10,000 give or take. And you guys are a rare interracial couple to begin with not to be rude but 90% of the time it's always white woman/black man so there's a good chance you guys will be the only "unique" interracial couple in the whole city if you let me say it like that. Of course people are going to stare on occasion I mean let's just keep it real a lot of people still don't approve of interracial relationships but all in all though people will welcome you and you won't feel secluded. I know it's hard fitting in when you stand out at the same time but if you present yourselves friendly there really shouldn't be any issues. Safford is a bit insular with a high percentage of LDS. I can think of many small towns more open to that throughout the state but best of luck !

My advice to you is ...come on over to Safford...most folks here could care less about your race or if you are in an interracial marriage.

And if they do...ignore them...plenty of good folks here who will accept you with open arms.

Safford is a friendly town with friendly folks. There is always a few bad apples but that is anywhere.....just so you know, for me and my house, we have absolutely no problem with that

As far as a high LDS population, Thatcher and Pima are very LDS....and Safford has a good number but it is only about 25%...the other towns are at least 50%...maybe more like 70%

The whole county is probably around 30% LDS...and 30% Catholic...and the rest everything else.

And the LDS folks here in Safford are nice folks who will treat you just fine.

Although I understand it is not nearly the same, I am married to a Hispanic lady, and the White/Hispanic marriages around here are very common in fact almost typical anymore, and although it does not carry the same challenges as your situation, it hasnt been too many years that a white man or lady marrying a Hispanic was greatly frowned on. But no cares anymore, and that is a good thing.

I am glad that the country is becoming much more tolerant toward interracial marriage.
