Never underestimate The Old Senator - he beats the GOP extremists out of office as we speak. "Nearly a year ago, tea party agitators in Arizona managed to get John McCain censured by his own state party. Now, he’s getting his revenge." The censure at the time was certainly one of the most shameful acts of our state GOP and right up with the discriminate freely for religion bill. Little did they know that they in fact voted themselves out of office with it. Lookit... it only takes a small but watchful minority of our Vietnamese Arizonans to take down the Tea Party extremists. Good riddance.

I hope this is the first step in getting the religious right/tea party out of the party. Goldwater warned us about the religious right and I am sure he wouldn't be too big on the Tea Party.

Exactly. Some people (most?) want to have fiscal responsibility without the religious extremism.

If you dig into the article, McCain was able to exact his revenge by having his out-of-state donors fund a coup in the Az Republican party.. it really doesn't seem much different than the religious nutballs hijacking the party.. neither player really has the "average" Arizonian in their list of causes.

Seems to me we're forced to choose between "red" billionaires & "blue" ones & while we're cheering for "our" guy, they're both just running amok & doing whatever Citibank / Morgan Stanley & Halliburton want them to do.

Not a fan of Michael Moore, but one idea he floated years ago for politicians was forcing them to wear patches with their donors names emblazoned on their suits. The bigger the donation, the bigger the patch, just like Nascar drivers. At least that way you know who's pulling the strings.

Some Arizonans are religious and conservative...and will continue to vote that way. Who knew?

If voting with religion over logic was a majority trait, we'd have Andrew Thomas as our governor. Thank goodness those that vote in that way are the growing minority.

Funny, so many people throughout history that are brighter than both you or I found religion logic to be totally compatible, and will continue to do so in the future.
