I've saved all my car plates from the different states I've lived in and have them up as garage decorations. My one from Arizona is this maroon one.

It would be so cool. I used to see them occasionally when I lived in AZ several years ago. Mostly on registered historic vehicles.

Why would someone vote no? They aren't mandatory.

When I saw this thread some time ago I remember thinking "I'd completely forgotten those!" When I moved here in 1990 I had that plate and I can't recall when they changed. I did a "special" plate one year (the AZ sunset picture which looked nice in a gold frame on my then coppery-orange car) but otherwise I just go with the usual. Now I have a blue car and I think different solid-color choices would be fun.

I wouldn't say go back to maroon plates, but I think Arizona's license plate is overdue for a redesign. I would like to see something completely new, and also a little more resistant to fading and peeling from UV rays.

The Missouri plate that was out around the same time looked just like the AZ plate. They did not have the really lousy, unrealistic saguaro of the AZ plate but some sort of logo or state outline in the same place. From a distance it was hard to tell. I was never a fan of the maroon.

Remember when plates were new each year. My first AZ plate was green and yellow and said Arizona 73. That was the end of them. They never changed the date and then got rid of it.

They could introduce a new design, but keep all the older designs as retro plates for choices for no extra cost. Montana offers 5 different choices for standard plates.

Plenty of the actual old maroon plates for sale on eBay. Then pop on down to your MVD and switch it over to your vehicle. Probably cost the same one time as it would yearly for another 'special' plate.

It looked great on a dark green car I had back then. I've had an ASU plate for years now, on lighter colored or white cars. No issue.

Spent a week in Montana in June. There is enough different plates there that it stuck out as I was driving about.

As for Arizona I would like the maroon plate. I prefer the classic simple looks.
