Good Morning Everyone!
Currently I am a DC resident and I have grown tired of the city. Although I like accessibility, its culture--museums, theater, and restaurants, and my new friends, I am ready for a change. DC is just too expensive. I pay over $1000 for an efficiency and I know by June my rent will increase. I have a family member that moved to Arizona in September. Like her, she is a city girl, and she loves in AZ. She told me that her rent is almost half of what pay now and when she relocated it took her two weeks to find a job.

Everyday I am thinking of moving, but I am not one to romanticized the move to the West. However, I am unsure of how to make a big move. I am originally from Baltimore, MD and DC is a hour from Bmore. But moving over the Mississippi--to different time zone. To a the K side of the radio is a big change and I welcome the change.

What are your suggestions? Should move there and find a job? Use my family member's address to help find work? I am a planner and not much of a risk taker. But what I find every more nerve racking is waking up ten years later saying "Why didn't I do that? Why didn't I try?"

What are your thoughts?
Thanks everyone!

No place is perfect...besides being sick of DC and a lower cost of living...what are the other factors driving this move? Job Opportunity? Family? Just want a change of scenery? Arizona (you didn't tell us which city you are looking at) is about as completely different from DC as you can get. Spread out, car centric and wide open spaces. Arizona ranges from tropical desert to sub-alpine climate zones so it really depends on what you want.

I think you should take a trip out here to get a feel for the place. Some people love the desert and others loath it. The West is a wonderful place if you are ready for the change.

Agreed.

Tho the OP might be Ok in Tempe or Prescott since those places kinda look like "back east".
