Default What's Happening in Clarkdale/Cottonwood?

Any feedback on living in Clarkdale/Cottonwood? How about housing? Is it all mfg homes? What are activities? Is there a coffee shop?

Wanna - I lived in Cottonwood for 1 year - I left because my salary was so low; also, you might get bored after a while - depends on your personality. Living is inexpensive in Cottonwood. Clarkdale believe it or not is on an upswing - big cement plant up there - houses on the main drag have gotten pricy - but off that histroical main street you should be fine. Also, there is a sewage treatment plant in Clarkdale - make sure you're not buying right next to it... Mountain View Villa apartments in Cottonwood are good - reasonable -look at what's around there - really not so bad - I just got bored. The lay of the land is incredible - very beautiful - that whole region - -
There is a small art scene in Cottonwood - the stronger arts communities are in Jerome - super cool - and Sedona - - Sedona's art scene is authentic not "cutesy"... Sedona rolls up by sundown, though - very very very quiet - -

Have you visited that area? If you like desert-like terrain you may like it. It is not all mfg'd homes, some are very nice. As the previous poster wrote, some are pricey. What type of activities are you looking for? It is not a town filled with night life. Coffee shop? Yes, there are cafes there. You would be approx 30 miles west of Sedona....very pricey!

Are you retired? If you need employment, there are not many jobs in that area, and what jobs there are do not pay well. Can you tolerate scorpions, tarantulas and "no see-um" bugs? Can you put up with extreme summer heat?

Unless you've visited a place during the summer and winter and stayed for several weeks or more, you should never seriously consider moving there.

OK...residents, could anyone pls tell me some more info:

1. exactly "where the sewage treatment plant is" heh heh, in Clarkdale. What neighborhood/street? (Im also looking the whole Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Sedona areas over). Are there other hazards or areas to avoid buying a home in, in Clarkdale or Cottonwood? Like below a dam, levee, garbage dump etc.
2. Is the Foothills Terrace Subdivision a good neighborhood?
3. What about Cottonwood Ranch (I know its for older folks (ahem, Im one)?
4. are pets safe outdoors? such as a cat or a small dog? Will they get bitten by snakes/scorpians or eaten by a coyote/mtn lion or anything?
5. And opinions on a good church to attend (christian) in those areas?

For locals that participate on these forums, a huge thank you. It is so informative and such a help.

Extreme summer heat in the high desert? Maybe in the direct sun admittedly, but, 100F in the shade here Arizona ain't hot------this coming from a Wash DC native.

What does concern me about the Verde Valley is the looming water shortage though.

Don't worry about the builders who belly up and leave buyers twisting in the wind, for they know how to build a firewall around their assets so that they suffer little of the worry that their clients do.
