Lots of same sex marriages have taken place in Fayetteville over the past few days. Over 400 licenses have been granted statewide. News stories like this one are bound to help sway public opinion.

I've seen polls recently that showed a majority of Arkansans support civil unions at least. Arkansas is as Libertarian as it is conservative, IMO.

It is interesting to see this happening locally. Gay couples are on the news nonstop, and we are finally hearing their side of the issue. This couple was together for
42 years before being able to marry. What purpose does it serve to deny them this?

Having lived in Fayetteville for over 7 years now, I can honestly say it is as gay-friendly as any place I've been not named New York or the California Bay Area. Its really not a big deal here for most people. The town has three gay bars, right down with all of the college bars, and I've never heard of any issues of anti-gay violence or anything. There is a large gay pride celebration here every year.

Conway has had a gay pride parade for 11 years. I'm supposed to meet my friend there when we get a chance to check out the town.
