TOKYO -- Japan was struck by a magnitude 8.9 earthquake off its northeastern coast Friday, triggering a 13-foot (4-meter) tsunami that washed away cars and tore away buildings along the coast near the epicenter.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a tsunami warning was in effect for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. A tsunami watch has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and U.S. state of Hawaii.

That Tsunami seemed computer generated - like I was watching a movie - I could not believe what I was watching. I saw it live on T.V. - people in their cars, nowhere to go, and that wall of water just engulfing them - so sad. Others were just standing there as the water rose - incredible destruction and displacement - WOW! Very Sad.

19 Countries now under tsunami warning all along the Pacific Rim, arrival to Russia any moment, Taiwan .........even Australia is under warning. Possible first US mainland watch issued for Oregon.

If you live on the Pacific shorlines alert your family, neighbors, and get to high ground.

Horrible. I'm watching this massive wall of water fly everywhere taking homes, cars and people. It's nauseating. It's scary to think that one of these times it's going to be a major population center in Japan. Knock on wood.
