They are becoming an economic superpower like Brasil. However, I dont see them ever becoming a superpower like the US is. Too many problems and too many hostile neighbors.

I agree.

However, it depresses me to see a country with some of the poorest people on the planet and yet they have nuclear weapons and space programmes. They even receive aid from the UK still, which is frankly absurd considering the countries respective economic strengths at this time.

India will continue to gain in economic influence, but not become a 'superpower' in the former sense of the word, i.e., militarily.

If you haven't visited India, just take a read, say, one of V.S. Naipaul's books about the Sub-continent. Chaos doesn't organise very well.

I think India will become a force to be reckon with in Asia and much of the world, but highly doubt it will become a super power. Unlike China, a country I do imagine becoming a super power, India is a messy and highly inefficient place in terms of its politics. That's its biggest obstacle if super power status is what they're after, IMO.
