I know this is partly propaganda, but of the cities I visited, Xiamen was one of my favourite. One of the major ports in the Southeast in Fujian province, once known as Amoy, the air is relatively clean, it's got a lot of nature, lots of historic neighbourhoods, doesn't feel too crowded, and includes the quaint Gulang-yu, as well as the unique Minnanese culture.
Has anyone else had experience visiting or living in this city? I think if I lived in China this might be one of the cities I would live in. Does the video 'sell' the city to you?
It's one of those cities that is much less well known than the big ones ( a lot of cities in China are) yet is actually decent sized with 3.4 million in the metro area. The nicest city in Fujian imo.
I know 2 different instructors (one a British English language teacher and other an American business course/s instructor) who have both taught in Xiamen at different times. Both of them loved the place.
Also a former Chinese student went there with her ex-boyfriend on a vacation and highly recommended visiting Xiamen.
It is a non poor coastal Chinese city without frost, and costs are lower than other coastal cities with large population. But not too much to offer.
