Not at all. It's up there as one of the most culturally rich cities in the world (that have never been ruined by bombs or wars and the likes) along with Paris, London, Rome etc., and it's every bit as modern as other Japanese cities.

I would admit that Taipei is amongst #1 for gay people, but only because almost every other country in Asia is extremely oppressive to the LGBT+ community (like Korea and Singapore, ew) so we stand out by default. If this was Europe Taiwan would be at the bottom of the gay-friendly barrel.

Most Thai cities are LGBT-friendly too.
