I'm planning on watching a lot of the Olympics and I'm really looking forward to it. I have a lot of confidence that South Korea will pull off a very well-done show.
I already give them credit for what I consider to be a smart move in terms of developing the site. Most places that host the Winter Olympics build a bunch of hotels and other facilities on the site, but then what happens after the Olympics come and go? They have way too many hotels for what they need.
Of course, they could have done what Russia did with Sochi, and host their Winter Olympics in a summer resort city. But I like what Korea has done. Instead of building a bunch of hotels in Pyeongchang that wouldn't be needed afterwards, they've built a high-speed rail line from Seoul to the site, and continuing onward to the northeast coast. That way, they can take advantage of the many hotels and restaurants and tourist accommodations that Seoul already has (and will continue to need after the Olympics are done) and shuttle the visitors to and from the Olympic venues. And the train will be useful after the Olympics are done, not so much for Pyeongchang itself but for the locations on the northeastern coast that will now have faster service to Seoul. Smart thinking, Korea!
That wasn’t the highlight. The highlight was the North and South Korean teams walking together in the same team uniform and under the same flag for the first time in over 60 years. The South has wanted to unify the country but the communist government of North Korea has such a stranglehold on the people that it won’t happen unless there’s a revolution from within.

Which moment has a historical significance in both Olympic and International history? Computer controlled drones performing the way they were programmed (something that’s been done for several years now) or the two waring nation’s athletes competing together as one unified nation following a civil war that started way back in 1950?
I agree. One of the best opening ceremonies I have seen. Great use of technology, and I am an IT engineer. Totally blew me away. Sure closing ceremonies will be just as good.
