I read it when it came out a couple of years ago. Hitchens writes very well and the book held my interest. I'd recommend it to anyone who questions standard contemporary faiths.
you expect me to gush all over him like the rest of the groupies?
No, it's just tha this is a DISCUSSION FORUM.
And when you write these simple, trivial little one sentence responses, it is not contributing anything important. To have a good discussion, people should be able to express themselves clearly in detail, and convey complex and interesting ideas.
When you post these littke ten word sentecnes. It is actually just derailing the conversations and ruining them. Bringing them down to a 3rd grade level. Is this what you try to do?
Hitchens, like Dawkins, is a bright guy, I'm sure. Most of his game though, is not logic...not real discussion....it's insult. He is good at sounding smart, and making the object of his comments sound dumb. That's all he does. He just doesn't really bring much to the argument.
You guys need some good thinkers. Dawkins and Hitchens just aren't it. They're smart in their own fields, but outclassed when trying to debate religion.
I read it and liked it, but I must admit that he has a confrontational style. I prefer The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. My favorite of all is Atheism: The Case Against God by George H Smith.
However, I certainly don't agree that Dawkins can't debate religion.
