DeKalb County (Lithonia and Stone Mountain areas)- Many middleclass to upper middle class professionals reside in this area.

Northeast of Atlanta:

Gwinnett County (Suwanee and Duluth areas)- these areas are more integrated with professionals from all walks of life including black professionals.

This is interesting. Most people I've met have told me that Buckhead is the place to live and to avoid all points South lol.

And I thought T.I. and Tiny lived in Clayton County.

Speaking of lawyers, I have some questions about the legal job market down there. But perhaps I should make a separate thread lol.

And if you have nothing useful to add to the thread, you can keep it moving. And while you're gone, you can start your own thread about what 'most intelligent folks' vs. 'non-intelligent folks' do. I won't mind.

Exactly. Furthermore, seeing as though I'm not a resident of Atlanta, I am unfamiliar with the social scene. I've read that the city is segregated, thus I wanted to clarify exactly what type of professional crowd I wanted to associate with. I'm pretty sure the right of Free Association is still protected under the 1st amendment.

Yeah its segragated here just like every city you have you black nieghborhoods, Majority white nieghborhoods, Majority latino nieghborhoods, then you have your Diverse nieghborhoods... The social scene is the same way... Its all because people socialize with who they are most comfortable with..

Every city in America is segregated including NYC, LA, Chicago, DC, etc by race and class

I'm a SBF thinking about relocating to the Atlanta, GA area. I've been reading some of the threads on this forum and other places online and I have a trip planned to ATL next month.

I've heard elsewhere and read on this forum that there are a lot of places where the Black, gay community and the Black hip hop community hang out.

But what about the Black professional community? Where do these people live and socialize? TIA
I'm a 30 year old, black male, heterosexual attorney so let's see what insight I have.

I'll send you a private message.
This is very true. The line between "hip-hop" and professional is very blurry so most places with young Blacks will have both types. Generally, the only way to differentiate is through conversation. You'll be better off in lounges/restaurants (Luckie Lounge, Strip on some nights, Twist) than clubs (Compound, Velvet Room, Echelon). Happy Hours and Greek events sponsored by alumni chapters (even if you're not Greek) are your best bets.

Luckie is cool, but there are definitely a lot of non-professionals

This is true and not true. Blacks live on the southside but with the exception of Camp Creek/Cascade, these places are outside 285. I wouldn't really recommend that if you want to be in the heart of the city and avoid some of the traffic issues. Stockbridge, Fayetteville are a little ways away from the city.

When people are referring to avoiding all points South, they usually mean Southeast and Southwest Atlanta, not South of Atlanta. This is pretty true (I grew up in SW Atlanta and there's a reason I choose to live in Smyrna). There are some nice suburbs South of Atlanta, but I'd prefer to stay closer to the city.

Buckhead is cool if you're looking for an apartment or condo, but it's not quite the scene it use to be. However, you're closer to the hangout spots in Midtown. If I were you I'd look at Buckhead and Midtown.

Oh and if you have questions about the legal job market, feel free to PM me.

The city is less segregated than it once was, but you can choose. You can go to all-black spots, all-white spots or places with a nice mix depending on your preference.

I understand the question perfectly. I've seen many like it in my 40 years.

Most intelligent folks don't make stupid assumptions about people based on race...and if certain people think that they will have a lot in common with others just because their skin colors match, then they are sadly mistaken.

I think that statement adds a great deal to the thread - thanks. Enjoy your time in Atlanta, no matter what color it may be.

There you go with that "thinking" again. As previously stated, your opinions don't really hold any weight with me.
LMAO! Dude, just go away.

You should steer well clear of Buckhead. White professional folk are still by far the majority there.

FYI, they probably dont want you around anway You know, they/we just prefer to associate with our own kind. Nothing wrong with Free Association!
