I need to move my stuff from NJ to Atlanta.

I priced out a 16" moving truck with Budget and U-Haul, pick up in NJ, drop off in Atlanta, and they want around $1200.

They allow unlimited miles but what I noticed is the rental is for 5 days. I don't need it for 5 days, just 3, but there doesn't seem to be a 3-day rental option, only 5 days, unlimited miles, one flat rate.

Does anyone have any experience moving (yourself) long distance to Atlanta and would recommend a cheaper alternative?

I have been looking at the same thing from nj to atl. Abf freight. Seems like a good option you pack their truck they drop off at the house they pick it up and drive it south. They then drop off at new house and you unload

Its named upack

Also consider checking picking up at other locations and dropping off at other locations (same general areas but other cities). Did you call a main number or did you call the individual locations? From experience as Atlanta movers we have to rent allot of moving trucks we find that you can get better pricing from the actual locations (not the main number) as most are franchises and will do what they can to get your business (the main numbers are corporate controlled). Also check the internet for the same companies (some times you can rent a moving truck for less on line) and lastly check other dates. Most rental companies of any type change the price of rentals based on the demand/ time of month. Moving is always busiest at the end of the month / first of the month. If you can move the date a week or so you could possibly save a tun on money.

Hope this helps...good luck with your move.

I was so relieved . Try checking penske u-hauls are terrible for long distance moves they break down alot . God bless and good luck on your move and i hope you will love where you are going .

I'm debating btwn Penske and Budget right now - I cannot deal with a truck that breaks down, and even when I was a kid, U-Haul was the LEAST reliable on that account.
Pricing seems to be relatively the same - I wonder how comfort is. I will have a large dog in the cab with me, and bucket seating seems less than ideal for that. Ugh.

When we moved from NJ to ATL, we paid a moving company $3000. Worth every penny imo. I can't even begin to imagine carrying our bedroom furniture up to the second floor. ymmv
Good luck with your move!
