I need help !!! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed because my partner and I have decided to move to Georgia next year. We have six year old daughter and are interested in moving somewhere with a creditable school system and low crime rate. PLEASE HELP !

1. Budget-My Budget to RENT a home is no more than $1500 per month
2. House/Condo/Townhome? I would like a house.
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)-I will be commuting to work.
4. Children(public school vs. private)-I'm looking for an area that has a good PUBLIC school system
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two-I would prefer a suburban lifestyle or a mix of urban and suburban.
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? Access to public transit is important but not a necessity. I'd be willing to sacrifice the public transit for a safe neighborhood and good schools.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood-I've currently been looking into Cobb County.

One of your previous threads>>>

A poster asked for additional FYI on your commute.

I think you need to visit Georgia and identify some areas for yourself.

If Cobb County meets your criteria then continue to obtain FYI on that area.

I live in DeKalb County, fwiw, there are problems with this school system.

my commute isn't really important to me as long as it's not more than 25 minutes away from where I live. I would love to visit to find some suitable area's but that's not to say that what I see is what I will get, hence the reason of me coming here to ask you guys who already live there.

Metro Altanta is over 8000 sq miles, (about the same size as the state of massachusetts) and over 5million people, Georgia is almost 60,000 sq miles and 10millon people. 25 min from your job can be almost anyplace. from 5 miles away to 20 miles away depending on traffic. We can give you suggestions but unless you can narrow it down, it all a waste of time. Find where your job will be and we can help, or find someplace to live and find a job inrelationship to that.

Well, I'm a pharmacy technician at Walgreens, I will just be transferring to one of their locations once I find where in GA I'm going to move. They have quite a bit of locations there in Georgia so it's just a matter of finding somewhere to call home. I said earlier I was looking to move somewhere in Cobb County but I'm not familiar with the area. I just wanted a little direction as far as where I should be looking based on the questions I answered on the earlier post.

Cobb has a good school system and the entire county is suburban. It's not my part of town but I'm sure people will be happy to chime in on the "best" schools -- but it's probably the strongest school district in Metro Atlanta. Very conservative politically and very suburban. But I'm sure there are probably plenty of Walgreens so hopefully you'll be able to transfer to a store with a quick commute.

thank you so much ! We're not very conservative people but I'm willing to sacrifice for a good school system and the safety factor.

Cobb County is nice, my advice, find a place near your job..I promise you, you will understand once you get here. It is a great area..close to plenty of whatever you may need.

I agree, get the job nailed down first. Cobb is o.k., but I think it has gone down hill over the years, although I like the Vinnings and Kennesaw areas. Also consider Roswell and Alpharetta. There are lots of ammenities and the rents are not as high as they were two years ago. North Fulton County Public schools are good. The traffic is horrendous throughout Metro Atlanta and depending on where you live, it may take an hour to commute 15 miles.

Default The Sienna neighborhood and city of Cumming are great!

There are a number of good, reasonably quiet neighborhoods in Cumming, GA which is about 40 minutes north of downtown Atlanta. One of the things I like most about Cumming is it seems to me the first suburb of Atlanta (headed in this direction) which has its own identity and is not a cookie cutter suburb. I've lived in Roswell and Alpharetta and while both are nice I prefer to raise my family in the quieter community of Cumming.

One of the better neighborhoods to look at is Sienna in Cumming. It's a swim and tennis community with nice homes and in a good school district. You can find a little more about them at www.siennahoa.org

Best of luck!
