Your husband's job is in the perfect spot for where you should live. I really like the Lake Winward area. Beautiful area, great parks/recreation, awesome schools. But any part of Alpharetta that's east of 400 would give your husband the shortest commute.

The very western part of Johns Creek would work as well. Both would keep you relatively close to your husband's job and off of 400.

As a former resident of Atlanta who now lives in WI, I have to say - jealous!!! Your DH's job is in a great location. My DH used to work on North Point Pky just north of the mall, and we lived in Alpharetta/Forsyth Co in the Shiloh Farms s/d (off McFarland Rd). The Alpharetta/Roswell/John's Creek area is close with a (relatively) easy commute, good schools, lots of shopping and close-by amenities, and great people. And I totally agree with getting a place in a swim/tennis neighborhood. They also usually have playgrounds, and it's a fantastic way to meet neighbors for you and the kids. Best of luck with your move; you'll really enjoy it from Nov-May when it's breath-sucking cold here and you're wandering around without a coat! (And, yes, it does get cold there in the winter, but nothing like WI - at all!)

Default thank you

thank you to everyone for their advice and thoughts on the area. we've narrowed down our elementary schools choices to the following:
sweet apple
mountain park
cogburn
abbotts hill
crabapple crossing
creek view

if anyone has any thoughts or opinions on any of these schools, good or bad, i would love to hear about them.

thank you to all who posted...it was a great starting point for our search!!!

I'm not going to give you specifics, but the north side of town is the nicer side of town and where all the nicer suburban growth is.

You can't go too wrong and there is no reason to have a long commuter either. The North Point mall is in the suburbs and most of the offices located there are there for suburban workers to have a shorter commute. Most the places people are mentioning are nice....

Just google the profile of communities like Alpharetta, John's Creek, Milton, and Roswell and decide what suits you best. The main public high schools in North Fulton are Centennial, Milton, Chattahoochee, Alpharetta, Independence, John's Creek, and North View. I would also research profile information and decide, which district you think will be best suited for your family. Then do the same for middle school and elementary schools that go to the high schools you like. Then, I would check out the real estate in those specific areas.
