Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on these two high schools. Does one have a better reputation than the other?

Graduate of Riverwood High School here....so no bias at all.

Both schools are good. Riverwood is the 2nd best public school in the state per test scores. You can really get a private school education there if your child is in advanced placement (AP) classes and magnet (if that is how it is set-up still).

When I went I was a grade ahead in Math & Science, but not in AP classes. I was in magnet. All of my friends were in those tracts as well and all went to tier 1 schools (or what I consider tier 1). Texas, Wisconsin, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, GaTech, UGA, Emory, Michigan, Syracuse, etc.

Both are great high schools in great areas. Both high schools have comparable reputations. Riverwood is more ethnically diverse than Roswell, but Roswell has a fair amount of ethnic diversity as well for a North Fulton high school--over 90% of the Mimosa Elementary area feeds into Roswell High. Riverwood has a highly-regarded International Baccalaureate Program and it is a charter school too.
If it's a decision about where to live between these two school districts/areas, find the house/neighborhood you love and go with it.

I think Roswell is probably a better all-round school, with healthier demographics (mix of ethnicities, economic backgrounds) and more varied extracurricular activities. Example: Last I heard, Riverwood didn't even have a band. Academically, there's probably no difference.

I doubt many high schools are as ethnically diverse as Riverwood - over 49 birth countries are represented this year! Riverwood was ranked by Newsweek magazine as #1 in Fulton County, #2 in the state and # 149 in the nation. Roswell was ranked #14 in the state and #412 in the nation. I'm not sure that I would live or die by these rankings, but it is information.

And, yes, Riverwood does have both a concert band and a marching band.
