On this board, we have on occasion, talked about Riverwood as an option for those who live in DeKalb or City of Atlanta and who aren't pleased with their public high school choices.

Anyway, for next year, Riverwood won't be accepting out of county students and in county students who live outside the attendance zone, will have to be admitted through a lottery.

The situation is a fluid one and may be different the next year, but Riverwood has become a very respected high school and I think the community support for it (and thus the enrolling of students from within the attendance zone) will only continue.

I also think that Riverwood is sitting in the middle of what was formerly private school territory. As parent's spending income decreases, the option of sending your child to a free, but excellent school sounds better and better. I think that schools like Holy Innocents will most likely see a drop off in their high school applications as parents choose Riverwood over pricey private school tuition.

Overall, I think this is a great thing for Riverwood, Sandy Springs, and really public schools in general...
