Hello All,

I will be relocating to Atlanta during the summer for school and found an apartment I love right off of Paces Ferry. However, I have to be at Georgia Tech downtown at 9:00am for classes and am worried about traffic. I have heard traffic on 75 south during this time is horrible. Do any of you know about how long this drive takes or back roads in this area that will help me avoid traffic?

Thank you for your time and help,
Rebecca

I don't know as much about the northwest part of town as I do the northeast... but I can provide this little tidbit and hopefully someone with better experiences can comment

I-75 inside I-285 isn't near as bad as I-75 outside of I-285, so it might not be that bad of an option for you. I-75 backs up at the connector (where I-85 and I-75 merge together), but it usually keeps flowing... but flowing slowly. There are also new collector-distributor lanes that can help you avoid the connector and get to the North Ave Exit.

Alternative street Routes will be:

Northside Drive south to GT.

and
Atlanta Rd -> Marietta Blvd -> Marietta St./8th st
or
Atlanta Rd -> Marietta Blvd -> Chattahoochee Ave. -> Howell Mill Rd.

I've been on these routes before, so I know they will do the trick, but I couldn't honestly tell you where the bottle necks are and how well they move in rush hour traffic, but those are the routes to ask about.

75 S from Cobb is only bad from 575 to 285, after 285 it clears up. By the time it backs up again at 75/85 you can get off at 10th st, get back on 75/85 and get off at North Ave which is the next exit and you will be at Ga Tech. It should take you 20 mins to get to work. Leaving in the evening isn't bad either, 75 traffic going north doesnt back up until you get to 285 and you exit is b4 285. It should take you 20 mins to get home in the afternoon
