I don't understand. Is there a dearth of landscapers that aren't sex offenders? By all means, take the risk. Your begonias depend on it.

Knowing what I know now I would just ask him about the charge and go from there. An accusation and having a bad lawyer can get anyone a charge.

Well sex offenders often have problems getting regular jobs so they have to work for themselves doing stuff like that.

I agree, just ask him since you already know about it.

Better yet, who the hell looks up their grass man on sex offender list?

Never would have crossed my mind at all.

Your children have probably already been helped on and off carnival rides by sex offenders many times in their lives.

If you choose not to hire one, sure that's your prerogative. But I think the OP's question is should they necessarily be excluded just on that basis. And has been discussed, with statutory rape convictions, that isn't really the case (at least imo, agreeing with what some others have said). If they raped a child sure, but just having a SO a few years younger is not really the same thing.

There's a great deal of bogosity in the criminal justice system. Sometimes people plead guilty even if they're not when they're told the alternative is 20 years to life. Especially if they're young and don't have anybody to stick up for them.

While I don't believe in going easy on crime, if somebody is working and they seem honest to me, I may give them a second chance. I'd just talk to the guy about it and say, "What happened? Is there something I need to worry about here?"

However, as Greg said I wouldn't allow anybody to work at my home unless an adult is present.

Thank god their are people in Georgia that don't share such a myopic view of personal redemption and are actually curious about moral/ethical obligations.

I commend the OP for not dismissing this person outright and doing her due (social) diligence to gauge popular opinion on the subject.

Statuatory rape? Let the guy do your lawn, watch your kids and move on, seriously. The stat rape laws are insane. I feel sorry for a lot of guys who really weren't or at least felt like they didn't anything wrong and the laws are oneside against men.

Especially if the guy was a teen when it happened. It only takes and angry father or mother to screw a guys life.
