Once Georgia became one of the thirteen colonies,Savannah was named the capital of the state.
Why didn't Savannah stay the capital of Georgia?

To better serve all of the population of Georgia. This is why a lot of coastal capitals in particular were moved inland.

Well, it was also the result of an intense lobbying campaign by the city of Atlanta. The city agreed that if the capital was moved to Atlanta, it would donate 10 acres of land to the state and make additional payments of about $110,000 (a serious piece of change in today's dollars).

A better question is why it moved so many times between 1778 and 1868.
