So in the interest of shopping at local (non chain) stores, I thought I'd start a post about local vendors of Christmas goodies. I prefer to give consumables whenever possible, primarily because we've all got enough crap (at least I do) so this year everyone is getting Red Queen Tarts. Have y'all tried these? They're like crack in buttery, crisp pastry shell. Every time I get themI try to choose a favorite, now I just indulge shamelessly.

How about a local toy store, and where can I get a bike for a kid, not one of those $1k machines I see cyclists on?

I looked for bikes for my girls a few years back, and figured I'd support a local store. I went to 3 different bike shops, and their idea do an "inexpensive bike" for a kid was still over $300. Good luck finding something- especially since your son will outgrow it in a year

I have always liked tarts so thanks for the links,

I live in city of Decatur, so all my recommendations are from there....

- Little Shop of Stories. Amazing personal service. They know every kids book ever written so you get honest advice. They also have a great train table and play area for younger kids. This Thursday the town Christmas tree will lit on top of their store so it's a big event with Santa, carols and hot chocolate ( and adult drinks fom the Brick Store Pub next door). 7pm.
- There is a bike store next to Sawicki's on Ponce which is supposed to be awesome. I have heard great things about them finding bikes for kids of various ages.
- Greens Fine Foods. Sells famous pecans, homemade candy, ice cream and now have opened an adjacent beer growler and wine bar.

Roslyn,

They don't have bikes (not big kid ones, anyway) and the store is not cheap, but it is local.

Picayune Toys in the Williamsburg at Dunwoody shopping center (behind McD's).

Cute place.
