It's time to retire OTP/ITP designations, since most people live ATP. ATP means "Along the Perimeter". Smyrna, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Doraville, etc...

ITP is a bogus designation because Smyrna is actually closer than many ITP areas. ITP people become so snooty, not realizing that I-285 is not a perfect circle ;-)

But, we like our snootiness! Seriously, though, you have a very good point. As the metro area grows, ITP/OTP really is a distinction with little legitimate difference.

Think of it as a river, it acts like a natural barrier dividing people and culture. There are so few and congested crossings at The Perimeter that it becomes a hassle to cross it driving. Not trying to be snotty, but here is an example: I know I find myself never crossing it as everything I need I can get to via MARTA and at least 1 bus transfer.

Its all a matter of perspective. I suppose ITP'ers like to look at themselves as "city people", although they live in single family homes on half acre lots in most cases. People who live in actual cities probably look down on them the same way they look down on OTP'ers.

Most lots in the old intown, streetcar suburbs are 1/3 or 1/4 acre lots. and only have 100 ft of street frontage.

Yes. Some of the old Druid Hills and Buckhead estates are much larger, but most intown lots are far smaller.

I live ITP. If you plopped a typical OTP house on my property, it would overflow onto my neighbors properties in every direction.

I love my tiny yard.

I dunno, maybe we should just stop labeling people by where they live in relation to an interstate..? The problem with all this narrow-minded ITP/ATP/OTP garbage is that it marginalizes the one thing that really defines the character of a person: ITB/ATB/OTB.
