Tell her to do her research. It's very easily verified that House started in Chicago lol.

Ah yes, every genre has its snobs....

I've met trance snobs, dubstep snobs, drum & bass snobs, and the list goes on an on. It seems we have some house snobs here.

Any true music fan knows that good music is good music and it defies fitting into tight and narrowly defined genres. So why don't we just stop with the "no true fan would listen to that garbage" nonsense and just let everybody enjoy what they enjoy no matter what they call it.

FYI, many people consider pretty much every form of EDM "house music" because it's sort of the granddaddy of them all.

But here's a pretty fun flowchart that shows the evolution, more or less: Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music | New Home on Techno.org

Sure people can enjoy whatever they want but when you know the elements of what makes a house song a house song and you understand musically what gives house its distinct sound, you know how to distinguish what is house and what isn't. If that makes me a snob, so be it.

Forgive me for being from where house music started and spending a good portion of my life listening to house on local radio stations on the regular, being around house DJ'S, musicians, singers, producers, house party promoters, throwing house parties and going to house parties lol. House music is "in my blood" and a part of my culture, if you will.

Like everyone in Atlanta wants to be a rapper or hip hop producer, everyone in Chicago wanted to be a house DJ, musician, party promoter or producer. There are many cities in the U.S. that have their own homegrown music or musical styles which shape those cities' identity and culture and it effects the people from those cities. And so it is with Chicagoans and house music (and blues). If you aren't a Chicagoan, you won't get where I'm coming from. House music is a part of Chicago culture and we Chicagoans are passionate about it.
