Anyone have any experience with these? These are the systems that take water from sinks and laundry, filter it and then reuse it in toilets and certain types of lawn watering.

Thanks

You've essentially got to install two waste piping systems in your house- one from the tubs and sinks for grey water, and another from the toilets for sewage. Doing so is pretty costly, and is the main reason you don't see it done very often- especially as a retrofit on existing homes.

I'm planning to buy a home that will need to be gutted, so that's not a real issue.

I was more concerned about limitations, hindrances, etc. For example, is it possible to use a garbage disposal system with one? Any issues with water pressure from the outflow side of these units?

If you're going to use a garbage disposal, you'll want to tie the kitchen sink to the sewer side rather than the greywater side, otherwise you'll get all of the food scraps in your greywater tank (not a good idea). As far as outflow pressure, unless your greywater tank is substantially above the discharge you'd use for watering, you'll need a pump to pull water from the tank, as gravity won't be working for you.

One of the most difficult parts will be finding a plumber who knows what he's doing and can construct the system correctly- they're not very popular yet in residential work, so most plumbers won't have a clue what you're talking about. You'll also likely need to hold the plumbing official's hand and make sure he's OK with what you're doing- code officials aren't the most receptive bunch when it comes to anything new and out of the ordinary.

I found the following link as I wanted to understand a little more about recycled water and grey water and it is used for...

They seem to make now some composting toilets that do not require any water at all
It makes a good fertiliser for your garden

see: Waste Water Recycling and Sewage Treatment
just scroll down and you will find the small article or introduction to the subject.
