My parents don't want to live in a subdivision anymore. Surprisingly, it isn't because of HOA rules, it's because of nosey neighbors. At first I thought they were just being sensitive, but now that I experienced it for myself, I totally understand.

I was doing stuff in the garage and went inside to get a knife to cut something. When I open the door to enter the garage again, one of the neighbors was standing there with her designer dog. She shoved her mutt in my face and says, "This is Fido! Isn't he cute?" I freaked out because I have no idea who this lady is and she's standing in my garage. What if I was allergic or afraid of dogs? JEEZ!

Is there a way to find homes that aren't in subdivisions? They are looking to stay close to Kennestone Hospital and keep it under $250,000.

Did you come from a very urban, high crime area?

Honestly, I can't imagine a neighbor standing in the garage with her dog unnerving anyone that much. It was a woman with a dog, in the garage. It's not like she opened the front door and walked into the living room and sat down or asked you to take out your wallet. If you were allergic or afraid, all you had to do was say, "I'm sorry, but I'm allergic to/afraid of dogs," and she would have probably just left. Some people mean well, their style is just a little unpolished.

I'm sorry, it's just that where I live, this would just be considered being friendly, even if I didn't know the woman. People here often see someone out and stop by to make small talk.

If this truly makes you uncomfortable, then yes, you would be better off somewhere without neighbors close by.

So, I think it has nothing to with a subdivision per SE, but the density of the neighborhood? In other words, you guys are looking for more space between your and neighbors' houses?

Nope, no high crime.

Well, they're thinking about making additions to the home, which an HOA probably wouldn't allow.

Sorry, nosy neighbors are part of belonging to a species that is social.

Whether you are in a subdivision or not, they can happen. In fact, up and coming areas often have the nosiest neighbors because they are hell bent on keeping the neighborhood on the rise.

If your parents don't want a subdivision for other reasons, that's fine...but this is a pretty silly reason. These experiences are definitely not limited to subdivisions.

I don't live in a subdivision but my neighbors are nosy. I like nosy neighbors because they look out for the neighborhood. I am nosy too, but your neighbor does sound freaky to me!!

That would have freaked me out and I would have told her I don't know her and not to come in my yard or in my vicinity again and especially not in my garage as she doesn't want to be accidentally shot!

But that is just me. lol

Yeah, this was just one example of one nosy neighbor. I caught her staring at me while I was reading a book on the porch. I decided to turn it into a lighthearted moment and say, "You look like you want to have a conversation, but didn't want to interrupt my very juicy novel. What's going on?"

One that walks into your garage? That's not normal. I could've lost control and stabbed her (or her dog) out of fear or psychosis.

So I'm guessing that no one knows how to search for homes that aren't in subdivisions...

Look at the Maximus One web site. If the home is in a subdivision, it names it.
