Okay, let's forget realty here and pretend that we could move the capital from Atlanta. Where would you put it and why.

In most cases I can't see this happening, but it wouldn't necessarily be an impossible thing. The capitals of New York, Illinois, Florida, and California are no where near their largest cities and they get by just fine. I actually think it makes more sense to have the capital and largest city be separate so that the clashing can be reduced and so it doesn't appear that the State government will be more concerned with City affairs than State affairs (not that they are in our case).

So maybe some where more centrally located will work like Macon, perhaps.

Totally expected these responses.

My vote would be for Macon, since it's in Middle Georgia or Savannah.

Savannah; the original capital. It really belongs there. The US has a tradition of locating capitals away from economic interests, although with the state of affairs today, you could argue it didn't do any good. See Washington, DC (which was originally empty land); Montgomery, AL (versus Birmingham); Albany, NY; Sacramento, CA; Springfield, IL; etc.

Of course this would require a time machine. The capital is here in Atlanta and it's here to stay; nobody wants to tear down the historic capital building.
