Haven't seen a thread on this.

Less than two miles from the Jennifer Ewing memorial there has been a vicious and gruesome attack of a walker/jogger. Fortunately she survived.

Husband: Woman beaten on Silver Comet Trail unrecognizable | www.ajc.com

Very upsetting. I hope they find the person responsible.

There seems to be a design issue with the Silver Comet Trail. Horrible incident though.

In my old neighborhoods of Dunwoody and Oak Grove, when I walked it was always in a group of other women. I just think a woman alone in an isolated area is particularly vulnerable. I would never do it in an area like that.

This is infuriating. I would personally like to pull the trigger on whatever waste of human life did this.

No doubt. You've got a nice trail for people to walk/run/bike on a beautiful weather day and this woman is just trying to do exactly what the Silver Comet and other trails are built for.

And some loser has to take out whatever issues he has by beating this woman so badly her jaw will be wired shut for 6-8 weeks.

I'm not a violent person, but I'd like a few minutes alone w/ this guy w/ no security cameras.

I've always gotten a bit of a sinister vibe on the Silver Comet Trail, and seem to always see at least one or two questionable suspicious people on it...maybe it's just because I know what happened there in 2006.

I much prefer Big Creek greenway in Alpharetta and never got an eerie feeling on it.

Bike trails, hiking paths, etc. should be safe places for people to go, so I agree that I hope zero leniency is shown to whoever did this. I really hope they catch the person, hopefully the stolen phone will make it easier to do.

This is really terrible news. No matter how many great things we build in/around Atlanta, there's no point unless people feel safe using them. It gives us a bad name nationally and regionally, but most importantly it makes us all less comfortable doing the things that we should enjoy and gives us an inherent fear of other people.

I hope the attacker is found. Eventually we need to seriously, actually fix the criminal justice system to help prevent these tragedies. The previous Silver Comet murderer had previously served time for rape and had a record of "several other attacks on women." Given that 62% of violent offenders in America are re-incarcerated within 3 years of release, it wouldn't be surprising if this is the case in this latest attack.

We need to get non-violent perpetrators out of jails/prisons and to enable us to retain violent individuals for appropriate amounts of time (FOREVER if there's a likelihood of recidivism). Maybe one day we'll even talk sensible rehabilitation programs for violent criminals, until that day we at least need to keep them out of our streets... and trails.

Nah, give that time to her husband...and give him a baseball bat.
