I'm excited about the streetcar since not only will it make getting around downtown easier. It'll also be another train I can take my kids on for fun. Kids love trains. My wife also doesn't like going into MARTA stations due to the inadequate ventilation in some of the stations which makes her feel claustrophobic so I'll probably be able to get her to ride on this to shave some time whenever we are downtown.

The biggest thing I'm excited about, however, is that I want this thing to be successful. I'd rather Cobb build an LRT someday than BRT, and I'd love to see that LRT go down Northside Pkwy all the way to Atlantic Station and the Arts Center. For that to even be a possibility, this train needs to spur a lot of development and have high ridership.

With the success of the BeltLine, ABI is looking at getting transit on the corridor as quick as possible. The meetings were full of great info and with help from the private sector, transit on the BeltLine could be accomplished thru P3s.

Has the Beltline addressed P3s as a source of funding? I love all the talk of the routes and such, but I am very anxious to hear more specifics on the plans for funding. Right now it does seems like they only talk about the FTA as the source of funds.

I hope they are working on P3 scenarios along with the supposed upcoming infrastructure tax.

They have not been discussed in detail, but the meeting I was at the question was asked. ABI is looking at all possibilities for funding.

No, it won't serve Ga. Tech. It runs only from Auburn Ave area to Centennial park. That's been the biggest complaint...it doesn't go anywhere. A person could walk from one end to the other in less tine than the interval between the trains.

Y'all are really cute with all your optimism about how much Atlanta is changing and how nice it's gonna be in two years. I've lived in the Atlanta area since 1974 and it hasn't changed all that much. More traffic, several attempts to breathe life into Underground, now a high priced Ferris wheel and a trolley. Don't hold your breath. Sorry to be a downer...

Care to explain how "it hasn't changed all that much?"
