So glad they were able to save that building.

Great news! Saw a few of the protesters there this morning on my ride into work. I was really hoping the building would be saved, or at least determined if it could be saved before it is demolished.

Yay, a building that has been unused for 100 years is saved to stagnate for another day!

Everything about it seems pretty weird:
It was bought for 150K in 2006 (when the market was up), then the city bought it for 750K in 2009 (when the market was down) then it is scheduled for demolition without review or notice. Sort of wonder who made 600K on a 150K investment in 3 years in a down market...

HAHAHAHAHAH.

You should read up on the recent history of this building. There have been several potential buyers for the building over the last few years, but for some reason the Atlanta Housing Authority wouldn't sell. Now that this has blown up in their face, I imagine it won't take long for this property to be rehabbed and put to a new use.

Anyone know exactly how much of the building was demolished? Every time I read about it, it seems like they described some sort of partial demolition.

Either way, I'm excited to hear it's been halted. Here's hoping that this is permanent and the building can actually be saved. I realize it's pretty screwed on the inside and it's been empty for decades, but I know a local establishment could make the building into something great. It doesn't deserve to get demolished--especially in a historic district like Sweet Auburn.

Apparently the building is pretty tough, and the crews were only able to knock off part of the cornice.

What is "historic" about this place??? Yeah, it's old. But so are a lot of places. Old does not historic make. Besides, it's dilapidated and architecturally insignificant.
