Hi all.

Pretty new to driving in GA and on the highway in general. I have a question about traffic since I will be starting a new job soon. I live in Fairburn off of South Fulton parkway and the job is near Cumberland mall. GPS suggests 285N. Is there a lot of traffic on 285N in the mornings? What type of traffic can I expect with an 8am-5pm schedule? I was thinking of leaving the house around 6:30am...

It really depends on the mood of the traffic on some days it can be backed up all the way down to Cascade others it can be just backed up to Paces Ferry. 285 west side is finnicky when it coms to traffic, sometimes it's a smooth ride other times it's terrible.

I join 285 North at the 166 Highway on the west side. As Scared said, the traffic on the west side perimeter is UNPREDICTABLE. There are days where you literally think the entire city has been abducted by aliens because there is no traffic, and then there are days like THIS morning where it literally took me 75 minutes to go from 166 to Paces Ferry Road. You just really never know. I will say there are a couple of back ways you can use to escape the traffic...You can get off I-20 East and take that to Holmes Drive and go North. This turns into South Cobb Drive in Cobb County and you can navigate your way on the surface streets to Cumberland Mall.
