Hello all. I have a family group who will be arriving at Hartsfield–Jackson airport around December 19 for a short stay in the Atlanta area and are looking for:

1. Hotel (good, but not overly expensive)

2. Shopping (again, a mall located in a good area with decent store selection)

3. Amusement, places to see and visit, etc

All this for 4-5 days, better if not far away from the airport. Any recommendations? Thanks!

If they have 4-5 days, staying at the airport is a huge mistake.

They could easily stay near Lenox or Perimeter mall and have access to the stores there and take public transportation to the other mall even.

The GA aquarium, Coke Museum, Children's museum (depending on ages of guests), High Museum, all make good indoor stops. If the weather is ok, the Botantical Gardens does special displays this time of year, and the zoo might work too.

But whatever they do, staying by the airport is a bad idea.

Define "good, but not overly expensive" price per night.

AFAIK, no more than $120 per night...

Any recommended hotels in the area?

Yes, the Extended Stay America Lenox at 3967 Peachtree Rd. in Brookhaven.

It is directly across the street from the Brookhaven MARTA station in a safe neighborhood. Rates start at $84.00, and you actually get a small suite with a full kitchen.

I always suggest it to out of town friends that want to be close to Buckhead, but not pay Buckhead prices.

Good luck!

I would suggest using Priceline and booking a 3-4 star hotel on the Express Deals page. You should be able to stay in Downtown, Midtown, or Buckhead for less than $120 per night. I do it quite regularly and would recommend those neighborhoods if you want them to have access to plenty of things to do. I would recommend downtown or midtown even more and using the Marta to get out to the Lenox mall out in Buckhead.
