Anyone that moves to a new city, more than likely wants to meet new people, build new networks and relationships.

List different ways in which you've made friends, built relationships, etc as a transplant to Atlanta.

I created this thread for anyone looking to meet new people,etc...

Stop by your local running store and find out when they have various group runs/walks or training

Ill Subscribe, I have been here since November and have met a few business associates but have not met anyone that we have hing out with socially yet. Being self employed I feel its even tougher. I found my business networking group on meetup but nothing socially.

Get a dog and walk it around the neighborhood all the time and go to lots of parks.

Drink at bars during the week when the regulars are there.

Put yourself in the same places over and over and over. Coffee shops, bars and parks usually have regulars.
Join organizations related to your profession. If you went to college or just a fan of a college team, look and see of there is an alumni chapter here. Stay engaged in your hobbies and find groups on meetup. Attend neighborhood watches and meetings

When I lived in Atlanta, most of my friends were made through work, meeting other people through work friends, and my bellydancing.

ETA:

Also my faith community.

If you're religious, find a church, especially one which does "house church" instead of "Sunday school."

My wife and I used a couple of web sites to meet people, and we also went to subject-specific weekly or monthly get-togethers at restaurants and such that we learned about online or via friends we'd met online.

It didn't take too long to meet a bunch of interesting people. Ten years later, we have a lot of friends.

Our neighbors didn't really have much in common with us, and neither of us really clicked with coworkers (mine were mostly not located in the US anyway), but that will depend on yourself and your neighborhood or workplace and would normally be other ways to meet people fairly easily.

The church idea is fabulous. Find a medium sized one: big enough to have different programs, small enough to really meet people. I would love to invite you to our "local fellowship of believers". It is on the southside, but we have people from all over. It is friendly, spirit-filled, and fun. Harvest Baptist Church 1974 Walt Stephens Road Jonesboro, Georgia 30236. Welcome any Sunday. Services start at 11:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.m. Sunday School, 10:00 A.M. We would love to meet you and be your church home in metro Atlanta!
