This is not a popular opinion but this is the truth. The biggest problem with the team nowadays is Matt Ryan. He's good but he will never be "the guy." He will never lead the Falcons to a Super Bowl. He can seemingly perform miracles to get his team down to the opponent's 5 yard line. And that's when everything suddenly falls apart. I don't know if he's been hexed by voodoo-practicing Saints' fans or what, but he has an almost pathological resistance to scoring when his team is just inches away from the goal line.

Arthur Blank is a great owner. He's an even better Atlantan. But, I'm afraid neither he nor any of the top people in the Falcons' organization want to cut Matt Ryan loose. I don't think they're ready to see him as the problem yet. And if you look at his numbers, why would they? But Ryan's passer rating and all those other metrics don't tell the whole story. Because when it counts, when it really matters most, when they're right there - just spitting distance from a touchdown - everything falls apart. When they need 7, they settle for 3. Of course, that's provided he doesn't throw an interception in the end zone.

I really wanna be wrong. I welcome having to eat my words this season or next because I want my team to go to the Super Bowl. But I'm not seeing it happen with Matt Ryan.

Building billion dollar stadiums and arenas for what? To watch them lose in? I'd rather watch college sports.
Totally agree! College sports are much more exciting! Don't get me wrong I love me some Falcons, but they always find a way to disappoint and lose a game where they are either up quite a bit or close game and still looking like they will win. Matt Ryan just seems like any time he gets under pressure, it's a guarantee he is gonna f up. He freezes, is afraid of getting hit and can't break away with the ball to save his life. Might be time for a change at qb next season as our backups wouldn't be any better.

The Falcons are currently seeded sixth in the NFC in the wild card round. The Buccaneers and Seahawks, each 5-5, are seventh and eighth respectively.

The Buccaneers face the Colts in a pivotal game. The Colts, 5-5 and fourth in the AFC, have a slim lead over the surging Texans (5-5) in the AFC South division.

I would expect the wild card picture to become clear over the next two weeks.

Matt Ryan...still the undisputed "red zone turnover" king.

Grrr.

Maybe it wasn't Mike Smith, but Matt Ryan.

Sad thing is the Defense is playing well, but the Offense is horrendous.

Ryan needs to go. He regularly makes terrible throw decisions. Throwing directly into 3-man coverage = interception... ya think? These are not bad luck tip ball interceptions- for the most part these are crap throws.

He isn't the worst, but we're not going to make it to the Super Bowl with him, and that should be the goal. Not going to get us past teams like Green Bay with more consistent offenses.

Still can't believe our 5-0 start has turned into this. And it hasn't just been Ryan. Quinn has made a few bad decisions too, and our #1 draft pick Beasley apparently can't finish a tackle in the NFL. He had Bridgewater today because of his speed, but couldn't tackle him. That's not good. But I guess he's a rookie.

Seattle just won knocking Atlanta out of the wild card at the moment.

So they're turning back into an Atlanta sports team.
