Hello
We are a family of 5 originally from OC California who currently resides in the Chicago suburbs.
We spent 6 years in Chattanooga before moving to Illinois. My husband works primarily in the south and we are looking to move back. I have 1 in College and two will be in college in a year.
Can you make any recommendations on suburbs and subdivisions that we should look into? I'm undecided on whether we are wanting a town home or a single family. We are hoping for an area that will help us develop friendships as I expect it will be tough since we won't have the interactions we had with kids home.
We would love a hip vibrant and safe community. Our range is between $4000k-$550k
Thank you in advance!!!

For your budget, you should be able to find a hip, vibrant community and still keep your husband's commute under 1,000 miles.

LOL Partial. I've done the drive between Atlanta and Boston many times and I'm pretty sure it was over 1000 miles, but at least it's only a 1 day drive

EDIT: Ah, looks like the thread was moved to the Atlanta forums.

It's not in the burbs, but $500,000 is enough to buy you a nice townhouse within walking distance of everything in the oh so trendy and hip City of Decatur.

You might want to look into townhomes in Avalon in Atlanta. They're pricey and so you'd be around people your age. My understanding is that they have wine parties at the pool etc. etc.

It's supposed to be fun. And the townhomes are super elegant.

I think you should look at Alpharetta of even further north like in Forsyth County. I'm going to guess that you want some space ane the last few months of school for your children going off to college isn't going to be a big deal. You may also like Johns Creek.

Now, after a few years of be4ing empty nesters, you may prefer something different but that's how life goes.

ElleKaye has a good observation here. South Forsyth county / Johns Creek is a great area. Having lived there for several years, I've been pleasantly surprised.
