Giving someone a ticket because their meter expired does not show it is about revenue, but the meter person is doing their job.
Then I guess ParkAtlanta gets more money from people using the meters properly.

All my run-ins with Park Atlanta have been at non-metered spaces.

Yes, it was my fault. But, one would expect some mercy out of the corporate justice system.

I had a similar run in with them. My sister who doesn't know much about city ways had come into meet me for lunch. Knowing how PA is, I walked back out to check the meter and sure enough it had just run out five minutes earlier. I was standing there preparing to put money in but they wrote the ticket anyway.

Seems like that would have been a good case for the exercise of some discretion.

This is what happens when we privatize parts of enforcement, they put profits above making discretion. If y'all do not think they have a quota to meet, then you have way too much faith in private companies solving all the 'big' governments issues.

Couldn't agree with your more.

Atlanta’s plan to fix its parking enforcement system calls for more citations to be issued, providing the city a 40 percent increase in revenue from fines, and possibly the installation of 1,000 additional meters. Some councilmembers are already protesting.

Wow, if that isn't proof that it's all about revenue, then I don't know what is. Seriously, what happens if everyone starts following the laws? Will they start ticketing people just randomly like some kind of insane reverse lottery? We really need to be like Vermont (I think) where all citation revenues are sent up to the state, then remitted back to the jurisdictions based on a formula.

We can't even trust the Bubba's at the Gold Dome to not redirect the revenue to some unneeded 4 lane divided highway in central GA.

I just got a parking ticket in downtown the other day for expired meter. It was only $35. You pay more than that to park in other cities.

I have no problem with higher fines and better enforcement. Otherwise why ever even bother to pay a meter? All the parking spaces will just stay filled up.
