Then they'd have a better chance at success.

Especially in connected and walkable areas like Decatur.

Quote:
“The business isn’t sustainable going forward at our current location given the limits on space and parking. Those limits made growing the business hard, even though costs kept growing, chiefly related to fixed costs such as the terms of our lease, HVAC, etc. After 13 years at this location, this business model no longer works at this location with the restrictions on parking and space.”

-COREBODY, failed Decatur business
COREBODY Decatur shutting its doors - Decaturish

Yes, apparently customers don't want or need parking and businesses do just fine without it.

I guess my point is I actually don't agree with forcing retailers to offer parking. I believe in capitalism and think they should be able to do whatever they want.

But this is what's in store for them should they choose that path.

I'm really not sure what you are trying to say. Are you upset that these businesses are not allowed to have parking? Are you upset that businesses aren't packed closer together and force people to use alternative modes of transportation?

I don't understand what your comments have to do with the article you are discussing. The gym is looking for a location with more parking. They aren't happy with the limited parking they are able to offer now, and think they are losing customers because of it. Basically, his statement is saying we don't make enough money to support the business, and one of the reasons is we can't offer enough parking. This has nothing to do with any sort of parking requirements by the city.

It was sarcasm.

Aimed at the posters on this board that constantly argue that free parking is destroying the city.

My argument is that without free parking, many businesses -- like this one -- will fail.

The problem isn't free parking in general, but government-mandated minimum parking requirements.

I used to go to this location all the way from Midtown primarily because they offered adequate facilities for Powerlifting type lifts. Very sad to see them go.

Driving to a gym, especially in walkable/bikable Decatur seems counter-intuitive to me.
