Hello all,

My husband is being offered a position with his company's plant in Flowery Branch/Gainesville area this week. If the offer is a good one he will accept it. With that being said I am looking for an area to live that won't be a bad commute yet still offer what we are looking for. We will rent at first but the things that I am looking for are good schools, family friendly, good shopping and parks. My kids are 12,10,7 and 2 yr old twins so we are looking at not only good elementary and middle schools but also high school since that is only a short while away. My two oldest are boys and they play baseball and my 7yr old daughter dances so those are important to us also. We currently live in Columbia, SC but I am from Ca. I am sooooooooo ready to get out of here. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I also posted this on the general forum but thought I may get more help here also.

Suwanee is a safe bet and that would be a reverse commute so not really any traffic to deal with...

What price range?

Price range of your Home? Own/Rent? 4BR?

Many of the Gwinnett county school are good, Look thru some of the old thread.

Forsyth (Lambert HS) is one of the top HS in the US.

If you go north in Forsyth (The lake in the middle) Forsyth Central has the STEM program, NorthForsyth has a ROTC program.

A new HS is opening in 8/2018 that will cause a district wide HS redistricting, (ES/MS are being redistricted in 8/2016).

I'll second Suwanee, as I live there and commute to Gainesville every day. From my house it's about 25-30 minutes. Very easy commute. Great schools - North Gwinnett cluster is top notch. Wonderful parks including George Pierce, Sims Lake Park, Level Creek Park, Suwanee Creek Park, Suwanee Town Center, as well as the Suwanee Creek and Ivy Creek Greenways. Mall of Georgia is a quick drive - from my subdivision it's a 7 minute drive using back roads.

Ditto on Suwanee, particularly North Gwinnett HS. Also check out Buford. Excellent city schools with smaller class sizes. I think it's worth it live a little farther away in Gwinnett for better schools.

Thank you for all the advice. We are looking to most likely rent first. We would like to stay around $1500 if possible for 3 or 4 bed. I thought about Suwanee because my sister in law lived there before and when we visited I really liked it. I was also thinking of checking out Buford. What about Johns Creek or other cities? I want to have a couple of choices to look at.

After looking at the sticky post I am giving you a little more info.

1. Budget - up to $1500
2. House/Condo/Townhome? either but would really like a house if possible
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)- husband will commute and I am a SAHM
4. Children(public school vs. private)- prefer public
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two- suburban or a mix
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?-not majorly important
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.- I want a family friendly neighborhood with nearby shopping and parks, I will be at home with the twins so having activities nearby for them is important.

I hope this helps some!!!!!!

What about Flowery Branch and Gainesville? Would they meet the same criteria?

When I looked at Gainesville the high schools didn't seem to be as good as some other cities. I think it was the same with Flowery Branch but not sure. I will check it again. My oldest is in 7th now so high schools are super important.
