This is another great suggestion as well.

The presence of a MARTA Heavy Rail Transit link between the Atlanta Airport and the North Springs area of Sandy Springs and North Fulton County opens up some areas on the Northside (like Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, East Cobb, Roswell and Marietta) for consideration by the OP should she and her husband want to also look that way.

If safety, shopping and close proximity to the airport are your top criteria, I vote Peachtree City, Tyrone, or the 30215 zip code of Fayetteville. The challenge will be finding newer homes especially in Peachtree City. If a newer home is more important, I'd vote for the Newnan/Sharpsburg areas of Coweta county.

Current Median List Prices:
Peachtree City-412K
Fayetteville (30215)-364K
Sharpsburg-279K
Newnan (30265)-237K
Tyrone-299K

Newnan is also a good option because it is a straight shot to and from the airport by way of I-85 southwest of Atlanta, which is probably the least congested of the major spoke commuter routes that run in and out of Atlanta.

(Ashley Park Mall, Newnan, Georgia: Ashley Park)

Given that Loganville is about 40-45 miles away from the airport by way of routes that can sometimes experience traffic challenges, Loganville should probably fall to the very bottom of your list of areas for consideration.

Because of the severe traffic congestion that the I-75 South corridor often experiences because of its importance as a major transcontinental route connecting the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest with Florida (especially around holiday and vacation periods when travel to and from the resorts and beaches of Florida increases dramatically and often causes gridlock along I-75 south of Atlanta), Stockbridge and McDonough and Henry County should probably fall down to the bottom of your list of areas for consideration as well.

These comments are very informative. I'd probably lean towards Peachtree City or Fayetteville if I had a spouse and children. I'd go for Vinings if it were just me because it's so much more expensive, and I could get by with a smaller place alone than what it would take to accommodate a family.

I have never stopped in Newnan, but I did have a co-worker who had a family owned parking lot at Hartsfield. It seemed she found it very convenient to the airport and the pics of the area looked nice so that might be a good consideration.
