I just got a notice from Waste Management that they are no longer accepting glass in their weekly recycling pick up. Does anyone have any recommendations for a recycling center that accepts glass waste?

We have the same issue. Have to take our glass to the local Fosyth County recycling center now.

The economic viability of glass recycling is abysmal right now. Most municipalities are ending or suspending programs, and even "collection centers" don't really have a place to take it to, so it likely winds up being disposed in landfills anyway.

Thanks for the tip - in addition to glass, I learned that they take a lot of things that I have had a hard time disposing of (fluorescent bulbs, batteries...)!

I did a quick goggle on "the price of a ton of glass scrap for recycling " and the result was this.....As of June 22 2016 , the value of a TON of glass was $5.25. No wonder municipal recycling services don't want to bother with it. That's pathetic.

It's a shame that the economics has more to do than the actual environment.

It also has to do with the "attitude " of the people. Here in Ontario, we recycle about 95 percent of all of our beer bottles and cans. The Beer Store gives ten cents refund per can or bottle. As a result you very seldom see any of them lying around the streets.

Same thing for wine and liquor bottles. It takes a lot less energy to make a can from old ones that have been melted down, than from virgin metal. Same thing for glass bottles.
