two men on two very different sides of the aisle sat down and had a discussion on the recent shootings and race in america. everyone who is concerned about this issue on either side needs to watch this... i think there are lessons to be learned for everyone. note: the video may take a moment to load, but should play automatically without having to click play.... and for goodness sakes', don't read the comments section.

I honestly don't believe this should be here in the Atlanta forum. You should take that to the Politics and Controversy forum.

Bryantm3: THANK YOU. I watched every minute and even rewound some of it and watched again. This is inspiring. Every American should watch it.

Not to sound cynical... but this is Newt Gingrich we're talking about.

Do you think this olive branch, "let's have a meaningful dialogue" video he made with Van Jones was just a calculated play to make himself - and the Donald - appear reasonable and compassionate in the likelihood he becomes Trump's VP?

Also, to keep it local, do you think GA will vote for Trump in November with Gingrich on the ticket?

Unfortunately, yes. Even without Gingrich it would probably happen.

Possibly, but Newt has come out in favor of criminal justice reform in the past--way before this current election cycle. Although he has framed it primarily in fiscal terms in the past, he's also talked about the inequality inherent in the system. How Conservatives Learned to Love Prison Reform | Mother Jones

I knew this would be brought up.

In fact, Van Jones even stated in the video that part of the problem with our country is that everyone is too divided along party lines. One is always suspicious of the other's motives, even if the motives are genuine. He pointed out some examples of this in his own personal politics.

Prison reform is another issue in which Nathan Deal has been more progressive than his (or either) party.
